STM32F103RET6 vs STM32F103VET6: Package Differences for Buyers

By October 16, 2026No Comments

STM32F103RET6 vs STM32F103VET6: both are STMicroelectronics Cortex-M3 microcontrollers with 512 KB Flash memory, but their packages are different. The RET6 has 64 pins and the VET6 has 100 pins. They cannot be swapped on the same PCB footprint without a design change.

Check the package before comparing price

A purchasing description such as “STM32F103, 512 KB” does not identify a unique component. Even when memory and clock specifications match, the package, pinout and available peripheral connections can differ. Ask for the complete ordering code from the approved BOM before issuing a purchase order.

The physical difference is immediate: the RET6 uses a 64-pin LQFP footprint, while the VET6 uses a larger 100-pin LQFP footprint. A lower unit price for the other code does not make it a drop-in alternative.

When could an alternative be considered?

An engineering team may consider another device during a board redesign. That review should cover the PCB footprint, pin assignments, electrical limits, required peripherals, firmware configuration and validation plan. Purchasing should include redesign and qualification costs when comparing options.

For an existing production board, source the approved ordering code unless engineering has documented an acceptable replacement. Do not approve a substitution from the family name or memory size alone.

Listed stock for both ordering codes

The stock update supplied on 14 October 2026 lists:

These are dated inventory figures. Confirm remaining quantity, lot details and allocation before ordering. The 26+ notation does not identify an exact manufacturing week; request label details when a specific lot or date code is required.

What buyers should request in a quotation

  • Exact ordering code and quantity for each BOM line
  • Package, packing and split-quantity requirements
  • Date-code range, lot consistency and inspection requirements
  • Delivered cost, proposed dispatch date and quotation validity
  • Written engineering approval for any proposed substitute

Frequently asked questions

Are STM32F103RET6 and STM32F103VET6 pin compatible?

No. Their 64-pin and 100-pin packages have different footprints. Check the complete pinout in the manufacturer’s documentation.

Do they have the same Flash memory?

Both ordering codes provide 512 KB Flash memory and 64 KB SRAM. This similarity does not establish interchangeability.

Which part should I buy?

Use the exact code on your approved BOM. If availability requires a redesign, ask engineering to evaluate alternatives before purchasing.
